What is Generalist Youth Support?
The Generalist Youth Support worker offers information and advice. They can help:
· link you up with a range of other programs
· support you to get involved in education and or employment
· to make links to services who can improve your health
What is Counselling?
· Counselling provides you with a private space to chat about things that have been bothering you
· Counsellors work with you to understand your troubles but also your strengths
· Counsellors may suggest different strategies that can help you feel in control & reach goals that are important to you
Who can we help?
· Young people aged 12 - 25 years living, working, or studying in Brimbank
How long do we see young people for?
· Up to 10 sessions on a short term basis
Where can we see young people?
· Sunshine (VISY HUB, Relationships Australia)
· Sunshine West (West Sunshine Community Centre)
· St Albans (Good Shepherd Family Services, Youth Resource Centre)
· Some schools
Will my parents/carers/guardian know what I talk about?
The information you talk about with your support worker will remain confidential/ private unless:
· You are being hurt
· You are hurting yourself
· You are hurting someone else

· Drug and alcohol use
· Legal support
· Housing & accommodation
· Depression
· Self harm
· Longer term help
· Mental health concerns
· Family counselling

How to refer a young person to BYS Youth Support Team:
If you have spoken to the young person about support options and they have shown interest in our service please complete the Youth Support Referral Form.
Download the Youth Support Referral Form. Return details are listed on the first page of the form.
Once the referral is received, a member from the Youth Support Team will call you back within three days.
