Centre for Multicultural Youth
The Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) is a statewide community-based organisation that advocates for the needs of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. In supporting young people, CMY combines policy development and direct service delivery within a community development framework. The programs CMY deliver in the North West include the:
Multicultural Sports and Recreation team which aims to develop a more inclusive sports and recreation sector that is responsive to the needs of young refugees and migrants; as well as increasing their access and participation in sport and recreation
NAYSS (Newly Arrived Youth Support Service) and Reconnect team that provide support to young people aged between 12 and 21 years, and who are newly arrived (up to five years) and/or have refugee experiences. The team works with young people who are at risk of homelessness or at risk of disengaging from school, family or community in the cities of Brimbank, Moonee Valley and Hume
Learning Beyond the Bell project which aims to improve the educational outcomes for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds by supporting Out of School Hours Learning Support Programs (including homework clubs). It does this by providing volunteer tutor training and program management support, information about and referral to Out of School Hours Learning Support Programs
Youth Participation – BRICS and Ucan2 are youth mentoring, leadership and youth led initiatives with migrant and refugee young people.
